Short answer: Yes — you can build Juz Amma with tajweed before Ramadan 2027 without rushing. Juz Amma (Juz 30) has 37 surahs and 564 ayahs. Start with the short surahs you recite in salah, fix a few tajweed habits with a female teacher, then add new surahs week by week. Quality reading beats a half-finished race.

Many women can already sound out Arabic letters, yet still feel unsure in salah or when reading aloud. That gap is usually tajweed — not effort. With Ramadan 1448 expected around Monday 8 February 2027 (subject to moon sighting) — about 93 days from early November — now is a realistic window to clean up Juz Amma, not cram it.

This guide is for adult women and older teens: a clear level check, a tajweed focus list, a week-by-week Juz Amma plan sized to the months before Ramadan, and when a live female teacher makes the difference. It is written for learners in the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, the UAE and beyond.

What is Juz Amma, and why start there for tajweed?

Juz Amma is the thirtieth part of the Quran. It contains 37 surahs and 564 ayahs, mostly short Meccan surahs that many Muslims recite in salah. Because the passages are short, you can practise the same tajweed rules again and again without getting lost in long pages.

Allah says: أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا (Al-Muzzammil 73:4; Arabic: quran.com/73/4). In our own words: or add a little more to it, and recite the Quran slowly and carefully, in measured tones.

That measured reading is what tajweed trains. Juz Amma gives you short, high-frequency ayahs where every rule shows up clearly — especially in Surah Al-Fatiha and the last ten surahs.

Which tajweed habits should women fix first?

You do not need every rule book on day one. Fix the mistakes that change meaning or make recitation unclear:

  • Makharij (letter exits). Heavy letters like ق ص ض ط ظ vs their light neighbours.
  • Madd (elongation). Holding two, four or six counts where the mushaf marks them — not guessing.
  • Noon and meem rules. Clear, hidden, merged or flipped sounds after ن or م.
  • Qalqalah. A light bounce on ق ط ب ج د when they carry a sukoon.
  • Stopping and starting. Stopping on a word so the meaning stays intact, then restarting cleanly.

A simple test ayah many women already know is Al-Fatiha 1:2: ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ (Arabic: quran.com/1/2). In our own words: all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. If your teacher hears this ayah and Al-Ikhlas cleanly, you are ready to widen into more of Juz Amma.

How do I know my level before I plan Juz Amma?

Be honest for five minutes:

  1. Letters shaky: start with Noorani Qaida, then short surahs.
  2. Reading ok, tajweed unsure: keep Juz Amma, but add weekly live correction.
  3. Fluent but rusty: see how women can restart reading before Ramadan, then layer tajweed on top.
  4. Already memorising: pause new memorisation until recent surahs are checked — see what hifz involves.

What is a realistic Juz Amma tajweed plan before Ramadan 2027?

From early November to early February you have about thirteen weeks. Use them like this (adjust if you start later):

Weeks Focus Weekly goal
1–2 Level check + Al-Fatiha + Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Naas Clean salah set; 4–5 short sessions
3–5 Al-Kawthar to Al-Bayyinah (last tenth) 2–4 new short surahs; review old ones
6–9 Al-Qadr, Al-Alaq, Ash-Shams and neighbours One new surah cluster; one tajweed rule deep-dive
10–13 Widen into longer Juz Amma surahs you love Steady review + light new reading; protect quality

Ten to fifteen minutes a day beats a long Sunday catch-up. Record yourself once a week and compare to a trusted reciter, then bring the same ayah to your teacher. For a page-based khatm pace later, use our free hifz and khatam planner. If you want live correction on the same surahs, book 2 free trial lessons.

Should I memorise Juz Amma while fixing tajweed?

Only if the ayah is already clean. Memorising a mistake means unlearning twice. A safer order:

  1. Read the ayah slowly with tajweed.
  2. Get it checked (teacher or careful self-review against a clear recording).
  3. Then memorise in small chunks.

Parents helping children with short surahs can pair this with our Juz Amma plan for kids before Ramadan. A mother who enrolls together with her son or daughter gets 15% off at Her Quran Academy.

What do the hadiths say about struggling and learning?

Aisha رضي الله عنها reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: الْمَاهِرُ بِالْقُرْآنِ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَةِ وَالَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَتَتَعْتَعُ فِيهِ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ شَاقٌّ لَهُ أَجْرَانِ. In plain words: the one who is skilled with the Quran is with the noble, righteous recording angels; and the one who reads the Quran and falters in it, finding it hard, has two rewards (Sahih Muslim 798a, sunnah.com/muslim:798a).

Uthman رضي الله عنه reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ. In plain words: the best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it (Sahih al-Bukhari 5027, sunnah.com/bukhari:5027).

Struggling is not failure. Staying away because you feel rusty is the real loss. Short, corrected practice is the path back.

Why learn tajweed with a female teacher online?

Tajweed is heard, not only read. A live teacher hears your breath, your madd counts and the letters you soften without noticing. Many women also feel more comfortable reading aloud to another woman, especially when restarting.

Her Quran Academy offers 1:1 live online classes with 100% female teachers, and has taught women, teens and children since 2019. Fees start from $35 a month. Read what tajweed is, what to expect with a female teacher, or visit our Quran classes for women and tajweed course pages.

Apps can help you listen and tick pages between lessons. They cannot replace that human correction — see can an app replace a Quran teacher for the same principle. The simplest next step is to book 2 free trial lessons. No card is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to finish all of Juz Amma before Ramadan 2027?
No. Juz Amma has 37 surahs and 564 ayahs. A strong goal for many women is fluent, tajweed-checked reading of the short surahs you use in salah, plus a few more you love. Finishing every surah is optional; quality beats rushing.

I can already read Arabic. Do I still need tajweed?
Yes, if you want your reading to be clear and correct. Many fluent readers still mix up madd lengths, heavy and light letters, or stopping places. A female teacher can spot those habits in one or two lessons.

How long does it take a woman to learn basic tajweed on Juz Amma?
It depends on your starting point. Women who already read Arabic often notice clear improvement in four to eight weeks of short, consistent practice with feedback. Absolute beginners usually start with Noorani Qaida first, then move into short surahs.

Should I memorise Juz Amma or focus on reading with tajweed first?
If your goal is better salah and Ramadan reading, prioritise correct reading first. Memorising on top of shaky tajweed locks mistakes in. Once a surah is clean, memorising it becomes easier and safer.

Can I practise with an app instead of a teacher?
Apps are useful for listening and tracking pages, but they cannot replace a human ear for tajweed. Use an app for practice between lessons, and a live female teacher for correction. Start with 2 free trial lessons if you want that mix.

Does Her Quran Academy teach Juz Amma and tajweed for women?
Yes. Her Quran Academy teaches 1:1 live online classes with 100% female teachers, and has done since 2019. Classes start from $35 a month, and you can begin with 2 free trial lessons with no card needed.

Start this week, not next Ramadan

Pick Al-Fatiha and three short surahs you already use in salah. Read them slowly for ten minutes today. Tomorrow, read them again. Mid-week, bring the same ayahs to a teacher so your Ramadan reading feels calm instead of rushed.
